A classic and traditional handmade Nanbu Tetsubin kettle with loads of hobnails and a fabulous vintage patina. Hand-cast with perfectly symmetrical small hobnails covering the the top half of the exterior and a triple ring of hobnails around the outer edge of the lid with the remaining surface displaying a rich, citrus peel texture giving it that warm organic feel. The sturdy, upright handle also has vintage character and feels great in the hand. With a great pour and stunning classic beauty, this is a Japanese kettle for generations to treasure.
This Nanbu Tetsubin iron water kettle was crafted in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan and is marked by the artist under the spout.
**Note - the handle does NOT fold down.**
Traditional Japanese Tetsubin water kettles, including our Hyō, are handmade and require up to 80 steps to create. They are unlined meaning they do not have porcelain enamel linings or strainer baskets. These kettles are carefully fired at approximately 800 degrees Celsius to form a natural oxidized coating which prevents rust. As you heat water or infuse tea, an additional natural coating will form to further protect the interior of your cast iron Tetsubin. The interior has been initially tea seasoned and polished.
It is very important that your Tetsubin is allowed to fully air dry after each use.
