Handmade Japanese Nanbu Tetsubin Unlined Cast Iron Water Kettle
This traditional handmade Nanbu Tetsubin is a delight to behold. Every aspect of this Japanese water kettle is beautifully decorated and masterfully crafted. Delicate concentric rings are lightly engraved into the lid and on the upper and lower body of the kettle. Adding to the beauty is a raised honeycomb design decorating the outer edge of the lid and a substantial section of the exterior of this vessel...it is pure elegance in Japanese craftsmanship. The natural citrus peel texture of the iron is richly calming and inviting.
This Nanbu Tetsubin iron water kettle was crafted in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan and is marked by the artist under the spout.
**Note - the handle does NOT fold down.**
Traditional Japanese Tetsubin water kettles, including our Yūga are unlined meaning they do not have porcelain enamel linings or strainer baskets.
As you heat water, or infuse tea, a natural coating (or patina) will form to protect the interior of your cast iron water kettle. It is important your Tetsubin is allowed to fully air dry after each use. The Yūga is marked by the artist under the spout.
