Kyū - 52 ounce capacity
Handmade Japanese Nanbu Tetsubin, Unlined Cast Iron Water Kettle
This elegant, hand crafted dark charcoal brown kettle from Japan has an organic citrus peel texture across its entire surface and a richly textured iron handle. The fitted lid is topped by a single flower bud.
The almost 80 steps required to craft a single Tetsubin (Japanese iron water kettle) are beautifully displayed in this masterful, useable art piece.
This Nanbu Tetsubin iron water kettle was crafted in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan and is marked by the artist under the spout.
**Note - the handle does NOT fold down.**
Traditional Japanese Tetsubin water kettles, including our Kyū are unlined meaning they do not have porcelain enamel linings or strainer baskets.
As you heat water, or infuse tea, a natural coating (or patina) will form to protect the interior of your cast iron water kettle. It is important your Tetsubin is allowed to fully air dry after each use. The Kyū is marked by the artist under the spout.
