Handmade Japanese Nanbu Tetsubin, Unlined Cast Iron Water Kettle
Capture the spirit of Japanese tea preparation with this magnificent Tetsubin from Mizusawa. An alluring raised dragon surrounded by clouds coils around one side of this kettle with the remaining exterior richly decorated in a dark, charcoal brown citrus peal texture giving it a delightful organic appearance. The sturdy handle is also lightly textured and a closed flower bud finial knob sits atop the lid.
This Nanbu Tetsubin iron water kettle was crafted in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan and is marked by the artist under the spout.
**Note - the handle does NOT fold down.**
Traditional Japanese Tetsubin water kettles, including our Takusan no Sakura are unlined meaning they do not have porcelain enamel linings or strainer baskets.
As you heat water, or infuse tea, a natural coating (or patina) will form to protect the interior of your cast iron water kettle. It is important your Tetsubin is allowed to fully air dry after each use. The Takusan no Sakura is marked by the artist under the spout.
