"Houjyu Arare" - 60 ounces The name of this glorious black design roughly means "Treasure Ball with Snow". A Japanese treasure ball is associated with luck and simply touching the ball brings good fortune. One very old tradition uses a treasure ball competition as a symbol of the coming year's prosperity. The body of the teapot is covered with 'snow', or large hobnails, with a cast iron treasure ball perched on the lid. The fabulous handle (which does not fold down) is highly unique. Rather than the standard rounded design, it is flattened and embossed with a random multi-circle pattern then finished with seven holes along the outer edge. Artisan Tetsubin teapots do not have porcelain linings (or mesh strainer baskets). As you brew your favorite teas, a natural build up of tea residue will coat the interior creating a desirable patina which will also protect the teapot from rust. "Ame Shizuku" - 64 ounces The name roughly translates to "rain drop of water" and it is creatively depicted in this stunning Tetsubin. Expertly washed with light brown, the 'water drop' lines embossed over the body are gently highlighted, as is the citrus peel texture, giving it a fabulous weathered look. Faint, raised concentric rings mark the outer edge of the lid, the very top of the body of the pot and the base. A heavy, thick handle (it does not fold down) and a generous, long spout all make for a hearty pour. A masterful design.
