Green Teas

"I was really a good deal low-spirited all the forenoon.  In the evening, my mind cleared up.  I was pleased and lively, and my genius was in fine humour for composition.  I wrote several fanciful essays that pleased me highly.  For here now, in the space of a few hours, I was dull and miserable then a clever and a happy mortal, and all without the intervention of any external cause, except a dish of green tea, which indeed is a most kind remedy in cases of this kind.  Often I have found relief from it.  I am so fond of green tea I could write a whole dissertation on its virtues.  It comforts and enlivens without the risks attendant on spiritous liquors.  Gentle herb!  Let the florid grape yield to thee."
~ James Boswell, February 13, 1763

Pearl Jasmine  ~ Our most popular tea!
High grown, spring picked green tea from North Fujian Province is hand shaped into tiny pearls then allowed to rest until July when the jasmine flowers bloom.  The fresh green tea pearls are then combined with the blooms five separate times to imbue each with the fresh jasmine aroma.  It brews into a heavenly tea with a gorgeous aroma.  The pearls should be reinfused multiple times.

"Just want to write to let you know how much I love my FRESH Pearl Jasmine Tea.  I ordered some Jasmine Tea from another company the same time I ordered it from you.  The other tea does not compare at all to yours.  As long as I can receive this quality of tea from you, you will always be my # 1 tea company.  You have a life-time customer."  ~C. S., Minnesota

Organic Pu Erh Green Tea (Cake)
From the mountains of China's Yunnan province, we are offering a sweet, earthy Pu Erh green tea cake.  (See image top, center)  The large leaves from these ancient trees are gathered, steamed and then pressed into small cakes.  These cakes are then aged to produce a mellow, fragrant, lightly sweet, rather earthy and low caffeine green tea.  Just break off a bit and infuse multiple times.  Store your Pu Erh in a cool, dry place for as long as you'd like, it will only improve with age.

Organic Long Jing Dragonwell
Grown in the famous West Lake region of China, this organic Dragonwell is considered one of the world's finest green teas and has attained the status of an Imperial Tribute Tea.  The thin, delicate leaves are carefully picked and hand processed in early spring when the mountains are still shrouded in mist.  The leaves have a blade-like appearance with a golden sheen and give a pale green infusion with a lingering sweetness.  The West Lake region has grown tea since the Tang Dynasty (8th century AD) and it is here that the modern method of making green tea was first developed.

Pi Lo Chun (Biluochun, Green Snail Spring)
This is one of China's most famous teas and is named for the hand-twisted, snail-like appearance.  Multiple short infusions give a sweet, fragrant brew while longer infusions produce robust 'caravan' characteristics.  Light floral with hints of leather, smokiness and fresh cut wood.  It's so complex that each person has a slightly different interpretation.  But one thing is agreed on, it's wonderful.

Organic Yang Xing Mao Feng
An Imperial Tribute Tea from the beginning of the Song Dynasty, this tea is grown in the Chinese province now known as Jiangsu where the famous YiXing teaware is crafted.  An exquisite tea growing climate contributes to this fragrant, sweet organic green tea.  The long, delicate leaves turn dark jade green when they are quickly fired after plucking and give an aromatic, flavorful cup with a lingering sweetness.

Kyoto Song Green
This is a very fresh, light green tea from Hang-Zhou.  The leaves are steamed in a fashion similar to the original green teas produced during the Song Dynasty. The Japanese have continued this processing tradition and offer a lovely tea with a refreshing "green" flavor.  It brews into a light jade color with a clean smooth taste and hints of sweet roasted bean.  The final selection and firing takes place in Shizuoka, Japan.

Anxi Pouchong (Bao Zhong)
Lightly shaded by black mesh, this Pouchong grows slowly developing a darker green leaf of uncommon sweetness and fragrance. A light oxidation of only 10% brings out its floral characteristics and delicate oolong flavor.  The large, slightly twisted leaves release a delicate, honey green brew with an elegant floral aroma and a gentle sweetness.

oolong teas.)

Lu'an Guapian (Lu'an Melon Seeds)
These unusually large and bright green leaves give a sweet, lightly flavored cup.  Longer infusions produce a satisfying, faintly vegetal brew.  This tea is also perfect for gong fu brewing and gives numerous, gorgeous infusions.  I like to compare Lu'an Guapian to a spring breeze.
